Tiny
fishing villages,
rambling coastal
cottages, and sun-washed
porches come to life in
the works of Cape Cod
artist Betsy Bennett.
Betsy's work is
influenced by years of
coastal living in
Massachusetts and Oregon.
When she was thirteen
years old, Betsy began
formal training at the
Philadelphia Art Museum
and the Wayne
Pennsylvania Art
Association. Later, at
Moore College of Art,
she learned the
challenging method of
egg tempera painting,
the medium that
continues to intrigue
her years later.
In the fifties Betsy
moved to Cape Cod and
established a busy life
juggling family and art.
She taught watercolor,
oil painting and drawing
to adults, and
substituted in area
schools. Meanwhile, her
luscious paintings of
the region appeared in
area galleries, and she
was awarded one-person
show status. Betsy's
detailed architectural
and natural renderings
have gained her
"excellence in
technique" awards and
many firsts and best of
shows in Massachusetts
and Oregon. Even with
the absence of people,
each painting hints that
someone is just around
the corner.
