The
New York Icon Series was
a natural outcome from
my ongoing love affair
with New York City. says
Paula Barr. "These
images were inspired by
Oriental space, Walt
Whitman, and the
masculine energy that
goes into building
skyscrapers." Fine art
photographer, painter,
and sculptor, Paula
lives and works in New
York City. A painter by
training, she earned her
BFA from Boston
University before moving
to Manhattan. After a
rising interest in
photography she made the
transition to it full
time in the 1970's.
Paula's work has been
exhibited in the Museum
of Modern Art, The
Whitney Museum of
American Art and The Los
Angeles Institute of
Contemporary Art.
She feels that her
vertical photographs of
the New York City icons
are the most exciting
thing she has ever
created. This is quite a
statement, coming from a
woman whose credits
include the world's
largest photograph,
(10ft x 74 ft long in
glass) located in a
Mobile, Alabama private
hospital.
