Barbara Appleyard was
born and raised in rural
northern New Jersey,
instilling a deep
appreciation for simple,
peaceful country life.
After raising her two
children and moving to
New Hampshire, where she
and her husband
currently make their
home, she is fulfilling
her life-long dream of
being able to devote
most of her time to
painting. With oil
paints her selected
medium, Barbara paints
four to six hours each
day, creating scenes
from her imagination
rather than painting
specific places.
A self-taught artist
in the true Folk
tradition, she paints
what she knows and loves
best: country scenes
with children and
animals frolicking,
people working their
farms surrounded by
stone walls, barns,
covered bridges, hills
and ponds, coastal
harbors. Paying
meticulous attention to
line, form, detail and
color, her paintings
exude a sense of joy and
represent cherished
memories of her life
growing up in the
country.
Having won several
awards, Barbara widely
exhibits her paintings
in New England galleries
and at art shows in both
New Jersey and New
England.
