These
words describe the work
of Elizabeth Allen, a
New Orleans native who
calls New York City home
for now. A nomad by
nature, Elizabeth floats
through life like the
Tennessee Williams
heroine she adores,
cultivating an image of
mystery and grace as she
goes.
Her hushed watercolor
studies add to this
mystique by representing
beautifully delineated
flowers and objects in
an atmospheric setting.
Ms. Allen has studied
watercolor and drawing
around the world in
museum schools, artist's
ateliers and workshop
settings. The Art
Students League in
Manhattan is a favorite
haunt. o Her most
important influences, in
addition to Blanche de
Bois, are Giorgio
Morandi, Morris Graves,
and Nina Simone. To
Elizabeth Allen,
atmosphere is
everything.
