A keen huntsman,
Henry Alken painted what he loved best:
hunting and coaching scenes. The most
famous of the Alken family of painters,
Henry was born in London in 1785. When
viewing his paintings, it is easy to see
how they reflect his true knowledge of
hunting. Whether during the hunt or
after a much-deserved victory, Alken
brings the excitement and vigor of this
age-old sport to life on canvas. He was
a prolific artist who was quite well
known in his day, and worked up until
the end of his life in 1851.
